Split Test Results That Will Make You Drool
It really doesn’t get better than A/B split tests that relate to affiliate marketing. There is nothing more concrete then these tests that will help you make $$$ because these tests are showing you exactly what was done and the results achieved from the changes. All you have to do is choose which can be applied to your landing page, and actually put in the few hours of work to test it!
I hand picked all these tests because they can all apply to your affiliate marketing landing pages
DHL Express
108.0% improvement on landing page

*These landing pages are exactly the same, just different models. A female model increased the conversion rate by 108%, i wonder what type of improvement they’d see if they used Mélissa Theuriau.

The Corkscrew Wine Merchants
148.3% improvement on product page

*Same landing page, except B has a red sticker and red text on the title showing a ’15% discount’. — Offering a 15% discount, while tripling sales is WELL worth it!

GamesForLanguage.com
83.4% improvement on home page

*Same page, only thing different is the text in the call to action button. A = ‘Play right now!’, B = ‘Insant Demo!’. I think the word ‘INSTANT’ speaks for itself.

ICoupon Blog
400.0% improvement on other

*Same page, only B doesn’t have the ‘secure’ icon. Who would have known… ‘trust’ icons can actually have negative affects on your conversions!

Geomoto
80.9% improvement on landing page

*The outcome here is video is a greater selling tool, than an image. These are the same pages but A = product screenshot, and B = product video!

The Sims 3
128.0% improvement on sign-up page

*A cleaner more streamlined landing page is what you want! The main differences between these 2 pages are A = cluttered, B = streamlined, with a better call to action.

I can’t even begin to tell you the amount of times i’ve made small changes to my ads, landing pages, even my demographics and seen huge increases and decreases in results! Sticking along the lines of positive changes, i’ve literally turned a $400/day campaign to a $700/day campaign without spending an extra cent! It’s all about taking the time to split test, and with that in mind split testing PROPERLY!
Quick Lesson On Proper Split Testing
Here’s how i would split test in my first 3 months of affiliate marketing:
(5PM) First i’d change my landing page by adding in 4-5 major differences, such as ‘trust icons’, ‘social proof’, etc..
(7PM) I’d swap out my old landing page with my new landing page (spending maybe $300 from 7-9PM)
(9PM) I saw a 2.6% conversion rate that day before 7PM, and from 7-9PM i saw a 2.1% conversion rate, so i scrap the idea completely, toss out the old landing page, and continued on with my campaign
*This is so wrong that it actually hurt my face to type that out!!
You need to split test for at least 3 days straight, you need to track it, so you can compare conversion rates during different times of the day, etc..
(If your spending a lot on your current campaign, just lower your budget to 5x your usual spending for the split test, just make sure it’s not spending like $20/day, that won’t give you sufficient results)
No split test at all is better than a rinky dink split test. So if your going to split test, commit to it and do it properly, you’ll be surprised by the results.

Money doesn’t wait for split tests….
There is no money without split tests!
Abtests is one of my favourite sites to waste time on!
When you did your own split tests, were you using any special software to do your split tests? Or just a simple rotator scripts with excel?
I’m pretty old school, i use a rotator script
Can you justify the increase in conversion @ ICoupon Blog as it removes that big-ass distraction? I mean that Secure shield there is fucking gross and takes away all the attention from the main action.
Definitely makes sense, I’d go with that reasoning
If the size of the secure shield is truly the reason behind lower conversion rates, it would be interesting to see if resizing the shield would have a larger impact or would it still be an eye-sore for your end goal.
I visit that site for inspiration all the time.
There might be overlaps, but here’s another good one sharing a/b tests http://whichtestwon.com/
First time visiting and must say it’s a great blog. Just an off topic question; how do I get to download your Facebook report? Signed up but being send to some art blog afterwards.
Please advise, cheers.
A/B split tests are GREAT! I suggest it to anyone who wants to make a shit load of MONEY$$
Incredible. It is truly fascinating to see the effects of how content is displayed on consumer behavior.
It is a field that, if meticulously analyzed, will pay such dividends. This is why copywriters are so important.
My thoughts on each…
1)In my research, it is found people trust woman more than men. They are more inviting and attractive to the eyes. This may be the case why the woman model increased the conversion rate.
2)It is like going into a store and finding yourself drawn to the rack with the big “Discount Rack” sign on it. People are drawn to deals.
3)As mentioned, instant is always a plus. Likewise, a demo correlates to the word “free.” People don’t want to hassle with signing up for anything before they can play.
4)Definitely the size of the shield icon that draws the user away from the advertiser’s main goal. I don’t believe the idea of security was the repellent.
5)A picture is worth a thousand words but a video? Now that is worth a million.
6)There are just too many distractions on the page. B throws the “Register Now” icon in your face and with the right color contrast to the rest of the page. A used a blue sign up button with a surrounding blue theme.
Great Post! It’s the little nuances in copy that make a world’s difference in conversions.
BTW – I have my intern reading your blog daily. Keep up the great content – much appreciated.
Thanks & Yep, it’s amazing how many A/B split tests I’ve done myself which dramatically change campaigns.
Ive seen this post when it came out a couple months back and it really does prove the significance of seemingly subtle changes that can really make or break your campaigns. Ive made myself changes I thought would maybe impact the campaign positively 5-10% and had it literally double my conversions whereas some of the changes Ive split-tested have actually negatively affected the conversions and obviously overall ROI. If this article hasnt nailed it into your brain yet, if your not split-testing – you might as well go get a 9-5 because you wont make it online
Saw this post awhile ago and just revisited it. I literally PREACH split testing of offers, countries, traffic networks, landing pages, optimization and targetting all day long to affiliates. It really is the key to success. Learn from the big G’s business model – he who controls the data controls the world. The more data you have about your campaigns the more money you will make period. The more data you have about social trends, political trends etc the better you will do trading forex, options, futures etc. It all comes down to data and knowing what to do once you have the data.
