Moved From Canada To Australia (Not Thailand) [PICS]

The Explorer vs The Cozy Hotel Traveler
As much as a like a nice $400/night hotel room, when traveling for leisure i enjoy staying elsewhere. I like to see the places i go without a safe shield around me. To me it makes the experience much more exciting. I’ll pretty much do and try anything and that’s why i love traveling so much, it’s the never ending adventure of trying and seeing new things.
One thing i wanted to do is move to Australia, so i took off 6 weeks ago from Canada to Australia. Packed up everything and moved (It was quite the mission). I’ll be here for 1 year, and will be exploring nearby countries throughout the year. First i landed in Sydney and drove from Sydney to the Gold Coast while making multiple stops along the way including Coffs Harbor and Byron Bay. Overall the drive took about 11 hours.

It was an amazing drive, and i ended up in ‘Surfers Paradise’ (actual city name). It’s an absolutely crazy city, mini Las Vegas with a 50km beach that is never too busy because it’s fucking huge. Giant sand coast all the way down and surf-able waves for the whole 50km stretch. There’s many small city’s nearby including Coolangata which is one of the top surf towns in Australia. I’ve been a few times already and it has the greatest swells to learn how to surf on.
The internet here’s is pretty sketchy, i just got setup with full broadband (which is 4x the price of Canada). Other than that and technology being a bit behind, it’s amazing. The views and scenery are stunning and the beach is only a 2minute walk away. I’ve been going daily (A luxury i’ve never had before)… Tons to explore over the next year, camping in the outback, scuba diving in the great barrier reef and hippie vacations to byron bay. Onto the pics from my roadtrip up the coast (*My shitty photography skills do this place no justice), and pics of surfers paradise overall. Leave comments if your interested in seeing more throughout the year (I have a trip booked to Fiji, and many more to come), otherwise i’ll keep everything strictly business.

Pics From My Road Trip

awesome! MOOOAR
I love traveling too and after seeing those photos i know where i wanna go to!
Very nice pics! <3
thanks!
Nice to see some pics man – glad you enjoy your stay there. It looks really nice, would like to go there too in the future….
It’s awesome, but everywhere I’ve been so far in Australia has been beautiful. Just the complete opposite of Canada
Checkout Cabarita. It’s a great little surf town with a fun point break. I’ve spent lots of time down there. Have fun when the Australian government tried to tax your foreign corporation an additional 30%!
Checking it out now, and hahaha noo chance that is happening
The place looks great! Australia is definitely on my list of places to see at least once.
SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET ENJOY YOUR VACATION
nice. drool. nice.
Damn. Fucking jealous. Definitely on my to do list as far as traveling goes..
Beautiful place on Earth to have a beautiful time- what an historic trip. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
These pics are stunning – going to Dubai in May, will post mine too.
Ah awesome, post back here with those pics. I’d definitely like to see them
since you said, Dubai. Its a great place and try to stay at Burj Al Arab and get a stunning experience. Been there 4 times and hopefully soon acquire some real estate.
Stackman, AU is definately on the list. Will come along this june with family
Hey man, welcome to my country!
What did you think of Byron Bay? was up their for my end of high school celebrations over summer was amazing place. Also since your in Aus now you have to follow AFL and the year you setup in GC is the first year of the Gold Coast Suns so get to a game
!
And please do not forget to head down to Melbourne, the capital of the world
Live it up man!
Byron was amazing, i was going to move there actually but didn’t because it was a bit too small + i knew some people in surfers.
I’ve heard only great things about Melbourne and I’m considering moving there for the 2nd part of my trip! Going to take a trip there sometime in April for 2 days to do the great ocean drive too
Yep exactly what I thought of Byron too, sunrise and sunset at the lighthouse are not to be missed!
But I definitely agree on the small factor
Oh well I wish you a great journey while you’re here man!
Great spots along the great ocean road too man
take a stop through Lorne, worth every minute
All the Best, both business and holiday wise!
Jordan,
Glad to see you’re following the advice I gave you a few months back regarding Melbourne.
Traffic jams aside, it is now the second most liveable city in the world.
You need to get here during the Aussie Rules Football Season and take in a match at the MCG – 100,000 will be there on Anzac Day for a Home and Away game.
Its time for you to keep an eye on conversion rates (Not for facebook ads but for USDAUD).
Sweet pics StackMan,
If you make it to Melbourne hit me up for a coffee or beer!
Nice beach pics.. why not Thailand lol?
It’s on the list!
Good to see your travelling. I just moved to Melbourne myself, hit me up if you’re in town we can go grab a “stubbie” also known as a beer.
Sounds good, was just talking to Justin about you. I’ll give you a shout in July or so, should be heading down there then
“My shitty photography skills do this place no justice”
At first, I thought the first 4 pictures were ones that you took and I was like “what’s this guy talking about?! these pics are awesome!!”
Then we got to YOUR pics and then I thought “oh…no, he was right.” LOL
Regardless of the quality of the pics, I’d still love to see some of the places you check out while abroad.
Also, congrats on getting to travel to such cool places!
Haha yep no chance those first pics are mine!
Looks like a LEGIT place to live / stay!
I am still kicking myself for not taking up a former business partner’s offer for an all expenses paid trip to New Zealand for a month. That part of the world is so beautiful. Congrats!
Welcome to Queensland.
Make sure you get a chance to come up here to the Sunshine Coast.
Caloundra for kite surfing (pick a windy day!) then head on up to Noosa and chill-out with the wealthy backpackers!
Hope you have a good year year.
Sushine coast looks amazing, it’s on the list. Never heard of Noosa
In three months time you will experience the mildest winter you can imagine… unless you escape to Cairns for a reef trip (highly recommended).
Winter with a jacket in the morning … then only a t-shirt on by lunch!
That said, it’s been pretty wet the last 12 months… and, well, I don’t know about you but I’m kinda feeling the chill here in Caloundra this evening.
May even have to pull the bed covers up tonight!
Yep definitely a bit chilli tonight, but still shorts and tshirt weather! Will be headed to cairns ASAP, heard the scuba diving is unreal
Jordan, you can stay at Gilligans in the centre of cairns… it’s a backpacker joint but you can get a great room and you’ll have a lot of fun downstairs (http://www.gilligansbackpackers.com.au/).
Tons of shit to do in Cairns.
Definitely make an effort to go up the Kuranda Railway (goes right past a waterfall that will be running like all fuck at the moment) and come back down the SkyRail through the rainforest. You can buy the ticket that includes both.
Cairns is so laid back – no surf but very very chilled.
Take swimmers, sunblock and a big smile to work over all those lithe foreign ladies wearing skimpy outfits!
Jordan,
If you love your surfing, get on over to the west (in winter is best but still good). Do some research man. The west is so very different to the east coast. Margret River area for big wave surfing and some of the freshest food and greatest wine in the world! Perth has a mediteranian climate and north along the coast is living the dream.
Enjoy your time over here!
Nice man, another shout out for you to come to Melbourne. It’s got everything. Moved here 3 years ago from New Jersey and haven’t looked back.
Without a lie, your living my dream. I’ve dreamt since I was 5 or 6 years old to live in New Zealand for a year and Australia for a year. Props to you man. I’m living in Austria next year on exchange, but you are literally living my dream. Congrats!
Hi Jordan,
Just curious, is moving to Australia (from Canada) technically difficult?
I mean, can you simply immigrate, or are there restrictions like the US, i.e. must return within 180 days unless a mountain of paperwork is filed and approved, etc.?
I’ve always wanted to visit, and even considered moving based on the great things people say.
Regards,
Ross
Dude make sure you come to Perth if you want better beaches and better babes.
Hey mate – welcome to Down Unda
You wanna come out on a JetSki ride some time? Shot this vid last year just off the Gold Coast… http://www.youtube.com/jaydenlawson Cook Island is just south of the Goldy. Let me know!
It is really interesting for me to read this article. Thanks for it. I like such topics and everything connected to them.
