The World Map Of Social Networks
I found this map on another blog, and the post was showing Facebook’s massive growth over the last year and how it’s taking over as the dominant social network in many new countries. This map also shows how other social networks are still #1 in certain countries.
I found this post great so far, but what really intrigued me were all these new foreign social networks i’ve never heard of before! Do they have self serving advertising platforms? even one of them? If not do they have advertising departments with English speaking reps?
The first one i researched was V Kontakte, and i was very confused. This is the V Kontakte website: http://vkontakte.ru/ (When translated, it says Facebook all over it… can someone explain this?). I found an advertising page, which is also very similar to Facebook http://vkontakte.ru/ads.php?tabs=1. The thing is i was not able to translate the page, since it redirects to another page. But they do have self serving advertising available.
Next was Mixi (Japans largest social network). http://mixi.jp/, they also have advertising but their page cannot be translated either.
I researched a few more, but found nothing that helpful. I personally don’t think I’ll be dabbling into any foreign social networks on this list at the moment, but it’s definitely something that can make a ton of money. I see zero affiliate competition! It would be extremely tricky unless you spoke the language of the social network your trying to advertise on. It would make research, deal negotiations, purchasing, support and everything else 100 times easier. It can still be done though by hiring someone who speaks the language for 20 hours to work everything out, preferably someone with business experience.

VKontakte (Russian: ВКонтакте, internationally branded VK[2]) is a Russian social network service popular in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan.[3] Because of its design and functionality, VKontakte is often claimed to be a clone of Facebook,[4] accommodating not only a similar concept, but also a comparable business model.

I use vkontakte pretty often.
The thing is, that facebook has been dominating the world recently and most of the youngest audience, that used vkontakte hijacking facebook. Because of it’s trend, the movie.
Hyves has self serve advertising but is extremely expensive. Not worth the effort, espcially not for affiliates.
Yeah, cpm is expansive, but you can target pretty decent and boost your CTR -> cheap.
I use hyves with succes
Qzone in China. LOL
I can read write and speak chinese but no idea in monetizing this network mainly because I don’t find affiliate networks normally including China in the target countries. Any idea other than affiliate marketing?

Yeah, vkontakte.ru (in contact) is pretty big in almost all former USSR countries as well as odnoklassniki.ru (classmates). I never used them for advertising, but let me know if you need any help translating these pages.

This blog’s posts. I’m not a fan of RSS readers, would rather receive posts via email.
About Vkontakte.
It’s a social network that is very popular in Russia (Russian Federation). Atcually Vkontakte is a russian version of Facebook.
But creators of Vkontakte.ru position it as another network that differs from Facebook. However all features are the same but in russian language.
This network is popular among youth.
Another huge network is Odnoklassniki and the main of this network is to connect people who were in the same group in the school/university/college etc.
Hope it helps
