Facebook Pissing You Off Lately?
Lets discuss current Facebook issues!
- “Facebook is experiencing a problem retrieving statistics for your campaigns. This does not affect the delivery of your ads. Try again later, or contact support if this issue remains.” Did you see that a lot from Jan 1st – 4th?
- Recently the Facebook advertising system has been having some hiccups. Wickedfire has posted quite a few of the issues, and i’m going to elaborate on some of them.
1. Mobile devices now seeing ads! Are your offers smartphone compatible?
As of recently Facebook ads are now available on peoples phones, this means a decent chunk of your clicks are going to your offer and ending up on a dead or non compatible page. This can be up to 20% of your clicks… thats 20% of your ROI down the drain.
How to combat this?
‘johnt’ (Wickedfire) mentioned “Detect mobile devices and send users to a nice mobile landing page.”
This is exactly what you want to do, find or make a script that detects mobile devices!
1. Find a mobile detection redirect, just google “detect mobile devices script” or “detect mobile devices redirect”. You’ll find what you need in a minute.
2. After that redirect them to either a custom made landing page that fits smart phone screens, or a mobile offer directly. Just make sure the offer your directing them to is smartphone friendly!
/Done
2. Click Discrepancies
- Seeing 1000 clicks on your Facebook stats page, but only 650 with your affiliate network?
- Targeting one country, but seeing clicks from another?
- Getting duplicate clicks?
All these are not as easy to combat. I personally don’t have many problems with the 3 issues listed above, but i know they’re all very common at the moment. Getting duplicate clicks, and clicks from countries you aren’t targeting is pretty much impossible to fight. Only thing i can recommend is remake the campaign completely or get a geo redirect if your seeing a lot of traffic from 1-2 specific countries you’re not targeting. As for click discrepancies with your affiliate network, combat this by trying out different affiliate networks. It won’t solve the problem completely but you’ll notice more clicks on some networks than others!
Tip: Always rotate the same offer among at least 2 networks. This is how you’ll solve click discrepancy issues as well you’ll notice some networks will have better conversion rates for your offer.
Everything above this point in the post so far is lowering your conversion rate and is the difference between a profitable campaign and a failed campaign. It’s also the difference between $5000 a month and $7000 a month. Take the time and optimize your campaigns!
3. Are Your clicks EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE?
Yes they are! Everyones are. It could be a system issue, the fact that Holidays campaigns are still running, or because a whole bunch of new campaigns have launched since it’s January and everyone is getting back into business! It’s hustle and bustle time, maybe it’s all 3 reasons!
TWO things to do here.
1. Wait it out, safest best, but won’t always do anything.
2. Remake your campaign. Sometimes your campaign has just crapped out for no reason at all, pure system issue. I’ve had it before, remake your campaign and you may just see some cheaper clicks once it gets rolling. Even if you have 100,000,000 impressions on your campaign, try remaking it and see.
I have campaigns with 0.4 – 0.7 CTR. I should be receiving 2-4 cent clicks. Instead they’re costing me 15-25 cents and it’s impossible for me to profit. Most of my campaigns are paused.
This pretty much sums up recent issues Facebook advertisers are having, share tips and tricks of your own in the comments!

I tried a dating AU campaign and they wanted up to $3 cpc!
I am having similar issues. I am new to the whole PPC scene and choose FB Ads as my avenue for promotion. I’ve been trying niches like dating, and games.
For some campaigns I was paying $1.45/cent click (I was paying by CPM but I was getting no clicks). All of these campaigns have failed and lost me money, all together I’ve spent $100 and have only managed to make $36.
Glad I seen this post, gonna take a break on FB Ads for awhile!
Anyone know if the facebook ads on smart phones is a glitch?
I’m 99% it’s not a glitch. Also there is an unofficial ipad Facebook app doing big numbers and I’m not 100% but i think the ads are viewable on this app as well. It already has 1.5 mil downloads as of today.
I hate mobile stuff! What the hell. If i promote a download offer, well it wont be able to download from a iphone… uhhhh f u fb!
This is a gooood point! I’d like to get some group numbers of what % of traffic everyone’s seeing from mobiles
We’ve been seeing Facebook over-report clicks for months now, and we are basing our data on what our Tracking 202 install on a dedicated server is telling us. I highly doubt it is dropping clicks at the rate we are seeing, if at all.
Some campaigns show over-reporting, while others do not.
For instance, yesterday, a campaign targeted at older women; Facebook said it sent 223 clicks, we showed 227 clicks. This was an under-reporting in our favor, but only by 4 clicks, so not a huge number.
However, for a campaign targeted at all ages (but a specific interest), Facebook reported 1,627 clicks, while we only show 1,522 clicks, a 6.90% over-report. The day before that, Facebook over-reported the same campaign by 6.06% (1,348 reported, 1,271 shown).
It’s a real issue that is costing us real money.
Ahh guys maybe time to update your campaigns cuz im pretty sure the “mobile market” aint going to get smaller. They are predicting 300 million apps to be downloaded per day by 2012. Check this page out.

So I guess the point is either keep up with the times or git run over by a freight train.
Good to see I’m not alone–I’d love to see this wave of bullshit stem off but maybe it will make a bunch of people move on to other traffic sources.
same issue here. I am having some campaigns with 0.25-0.6 CTR and the cpc never get lower than 15c-25c. Also when my CTR drops a little, lets say from 0.5 to 0.40 – 0.35 (which is still great CTR IMO!) , the cpc is going up 5-10 cents.
Im having issues with click discrepancies as well, especially in the UK. The numbers are pretty big actually. No idea wtf is going on
Seems like a big “F off” to direct marketers and a “get mobile and desktop/laptop users under one roof” stunt by facebook.
So I’m guessing its really hard to have a successful campaign on Facebook right now?
Competition.
Agencies are jumping in real fast. Up goes the CPC.
You’re now competing with companies that are making their money by charging clients the ad spend plus a management percentage. These guys don’t always need clicks to see outcomes. Sometimes just brand exposure is the explanation sold to the client.
Facebook is getting too big for agencies not to be in the mix.
OMG! The sky is falling!?
Hi Jordan,
actually I don’t have a problem regarding the performance of my Facebook Ads.
But I would like to know if there is any good Facebook Ad Editor (like the AdWords Editor for Google) you can recommend, since creating very targeted ads with same or nearly the same creatives is really a pain.
I tried AdSage, but that doesn’t work for me. The others mentioned here http://developers.facebook.com/adsapivendors are not suitable though.
Cheers
Markus
Nice tips! It’s getting ridiculous to run successful campaign on Facebook these days. Ahh I miss the good old days when these big multi million companies weren’t around and the control system was so much easier to manage on FB.
Yep, as of 2 days ago things seem to be picking up, all my bids are back to normal now!
I get .5 to .7 and fb wont serve me impressions. I thought it was just users clickling dislike on my ads. No? Cant that happen too
Your webpage doesn’t render appropriately on my apple iphone – you may want to try and fix that.
I think one of your advertisements caused my internet browser to re-size, you may well want to put that on your blacklist.
I just added this weblog to my rss reader.
Thank you, I have recently been seeking for facts about this subject matter for ages and yours is the best I’ve discovered so far.
